It's always a need to have the alternate covers of your books, because they're always so pretty! It's a bonus that there are bonuses and goodies that come with them 🙌🏼

"...exclusive Barnes & Noble edition of The Luminaries that includes an alternate cover with copper foiling, a unique case color and case stamp, plus exclusive endpapers."

What does that mean? Judging from the photos, "alternate cover" means different design on the dust jacket, right? What is a case ("unique case color and case stamp")? Is that the actual cover of the book, vs the dust jacket? And endpapers are the pretty paper design on the inside of a hardcover, right? Or does it mean like the afterward/acknowledgements/behind the scenes notes and whatnot at the end of a book? (I love extra/bonus content like this!)

Also, I appreciate how B&N showed the hardcover (case?) under the dust jacket of their special edition, but how does it differ from the standard hardcover? What does the normal hardcover look like under its dust jacket?

Sorry for all the questions! I preordered on Amazon back in January, and I'm wondering if it's worth switching to B&N for the aesthetics or not.

So, the B&N Exclusive edition is indeed the one with the different dust jacket. It has fancy endpapers (the regular book doesn't)--end papers are the paper that you see when you first open the book. What's glued to the actual hardcover.

And then the casing (the physical hardcover part) is a gold bear on black on the standard edition. You can look at other preorder pages here to see a graphic of that! I am not sure I'm allowed to share what the B&N edition looks like, but it's slightly different. (Not hugely so).

Those are the main differences! The actual BOOK is exactly the same -- there's no extra content or anything like that. ;)

Thank you, April!!

Actually, I take it back, haha!! If you click on the B&N Exclusive button above, you can see what the unique casing looks like. It's just a different color (green instead of black).

It's not a map, but a poster of Winnie in the forest. (There IS a map in all editions of the book!! It's just printed inside.)

But yes, if you want a personalized copy AND a poster, you should try Schuler Books. (The link is in the post!) However, I do know poster supplies are limited...so you should probably call to see if you can get one when you order!!
